The mobile phone text messages are more expensive to download data from Hubble

The ratio of price per mega downloaded is considerably higher in the case of SMS messages.
According to a scientific study at the University of Leicester.

The price of text messages depends on the operator and the fare to which he subscribes each client, but in all cases there is a common point. If the cost is measured in terms of volume of data downloads to your phone every time you receive an SMS price is very high. Whether that is even above what it costs to receive data from the Hubble telescope.

The blog Microserfs compiles t

ts of an investigation conducted by Dr. Nigel Bannister, University of Leicester, noting that the cost of a megabyte of data downloaded from the Hubble four times cheaper than having to receive the same amount information via SMS.

The comparison has been made taking into account the price of messages in the UK. Bannister explains that "the maximum size of an SMS are 160 characters, which equates to 140 bytes of information."

7490 will be needed then send messages to a megabyte of information, and if we assume that each message costs 5 pence, the result is that the cost of that shipment is 374 pounds.

According to NASA, send a mega information from the Hubble will cost 8.85 pounds, but does not include what the space agency must pay ashore to transmit the signal. Given such an expense the cost could reach 85 pounds.
